What is an Industrial Butterfly Valve?
Butterfly valve is a simple design and easy to operate industrial valve, widely used in the need for rapid opening and closing of pipe systems. The core component of the butterfly valve is a disc-shaped butterfly plate that controls the flow of fluid by rotating around a central axis. When the butterfly plate is parallel to the direction of the fluid, the fluid can pass freely. When the disc is rotated perpendicular to the direction of the fluid, the flow of the fluid is completely blocked. Butterfly valves are compact and lightweight, making them ideal for large diameter piping systems such as water treatment and HVAC systems. Butterfly valves can be operated manually or equipped with actuators for automated control and are ideal for industrial fluid control.
Characteristics of Valve Use
  • Quick opening and closing
The butterfly valve can be switched on and off by rotating 90 degrees, which is easy and fast to operate, and is ideal for systems that require frequent opening and closing, such as water treatment and HVAC systems.
  • Small size and light weight
The design of butterfly valves makes them small and lightweight, ideal for installation of limited space piping systems, and easy to maintain and replace.
  • Two-way seal
Butterfly valves usually have a two-way seal function, allowing fluid to pass from any direction and maintain good sealing performance, suitable for two-way flow of pipelines.
  • Low flow resistance
When the butterfly valve is opened, the butterfly plate is parallel to the direction of the fluid, and the fluid resistance is small, which is suitable for large flow applications in large diameter pipelines.

About The Key Parts of The Butterfly Valve
  • 01
    Valve Body
The valve body of a butterfly valve is usually thin-walled, lightweight and compact, suitable for installation in pipeline systems with limited space. The valve body is usually made of cast iron or stainless steel and can withstand medium and low pressure conditions.
  • 02
    Valve Disc
The disc is the core component for controlling fluid flow. It is in the shape of a disc and rotates to open and close the valve. The disc is precisely designed to ensure fluid control when opening or closing.
  • 03
    Valve Seat
The valve seat is the sealing surface between the disc and the valve body, usually made of elastic material or metal. The valve seat can provide good sealing and reduce the risk of leakage when the fluid passes through.
  • 04
    Valve stem
The valve stem connects the disc and the handle or actuator, and drives the disc to open and close by rotating. The valve stem is usually made of high-strength materials to ensure durability in frequent operations.
  • 05
    Operation
The operation of the butterfly valve can be achieved by manual operation (using a handle or lever) or automatic operation by an electric or pneumatic actuator. Manual operation is suitable for simple applications, while automatic operation is suitable for complex conditions or remote control.
